The Governor’s Workforce Board oversees both the federal WIOA Title 1 work, as well as the distribution of Job Development Funds. They also work closely with RI’s Department of Labor and Training (DLT).
Through these funding and policy initiatives, they support the 8 Industry Partners in RI, the Career Pathways work (along with RIDE), and support multiple grants to businesses and partnerships, including funding to RIDE for the Adult Education system which increase basic skills in RI’s Workforce.
RI’s DLT has initiatied a well-funded Real Jobs RI Initiative in Spring of 2015, with the goal of “ensuring that Rhode Island employers have the talent they need to compete and grow while providing targeted education and skills training for Rhode Island workers…[and] to develop Real Jobs Partnerships that convene industry employers, key stakeholders and groups in partnerships that build alliances to address business workforce demands.”
The Planning and Implementations grants are required to be applied for by a partnerships of Employers, Training Providers (including Adult Education programs) and Conveners. Please see the RJRI site for more details on how to get involved, or contact Jill Holloway at the PDC.
