The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014. (See the full bill.) This Act reauthorizes the workforce system across the country, including the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) with several major revisions. Watch this page from OCTAE (Office of Career and Technical and Adult Education), a division of the US Department of Education, for updates, timelines, and resources to guide implementation of the new requirements.
From the The Department of Labor (DOL) website on WIOA: “The DOL, in coordination with the U.S. Departments of Education (ED) and Health and Human Services (HHS), is working diligently to ensure that states, local areas, other grantees, and stakeholders are prepared for the implementation of WIOA. The WIOA Resource Page provides information and resources for States, local areas, non-profits and other grantees, and other stakeholders to assist with implementation of the Act. This page is updated to reflect newly developed materials, including responses to frequently asked questions.”
